Summary of the decision

VA-02-11-137 — Peter Cameron

Request: Variances in R-1AA (single family-10,000 sq. ft. lots) zone to construct garage (to replace existing carport) 25 ft. from front property line and 5.9 ft. from side property line in lieu of 30 ft. and 7.5 ft., respectively.

Decision: Approved

Hearing: This is an area of older homes. The existing residence was built at a time previous to zoning regulations; the existing carport does not meet front and side yard setbacks. The applicant clarified he wanted to replace the existing carport with a new carport and not a garage. The neighbor most affected wrote with no objection to the request. The neighbor's house is not close to the applicant's carport, and the properties are separated by dense vegetation. The carport is not close to the road and is not out of line with other homes on the street. There was no opposition to this request.
