Summary of the decision
VA-04-06-169 — Paul D. Burns
Request: Variance in R-CE (single family-1acre lots) zone to construct a detached accessory building (garage) 26 ft. in height in lieu of 15 ft. (NOTE: Accessory building design standards will be met).
Decision: Approved
Hearing: The property is an approximate two-acre lot in a rural residential area in southeast Orange County. The applicant has a boat, recreational vehicle, and other similar objects he wants to store in the proposed building. These items are currently sitting out in the open. The height of the boat and RV require the doors of the building be tall in order for them to fit in there. In turn, the building needs to be taller to accommodate this additional height. Several commentaries were received in favor. There was no opposition. From an aesthetic standpoint, the BZA acknowledged their preference for storage of these items in a building tall enough to accommodate them versus having them stored outside in open view.
