The applicant pointed out that the hotel is setback as far as possible from the nearest multi-family residential. They also discussed other hotels in the area that are taller, and that this would not set a precedent. One person spoke in opposition at the hearing, with concerns about increased traffic. The applicant stated that the project is infill development and the site will be developed at a lower density than the allowed floor area ratio, which will result in less traffic than would be possible by right. The BZA agreed that apartments or other uses would generate more traffic than the hotel. Staff received no commentaries in favor of the application, and none in opposition to the application. The BZA approved the variance.
