Summary of the decision
8/5/1999 #16 — Staybridge Suites at Airport
Request: For Special Exception in R-3, C-1 and R-1 zones as follows: 1. Provide parking in R-3 zone in conjuction with a hotel use; 2. Provide retention in R-3 zone in conjuction with a hotel use; and Variance to construct a hotel 70 ft. in height in lieu of 50 ft.
Decision: Approved
Hearing: The applicant is requesting approval to utilize adjacent residential zoned lands for retention and part of their parking facilities. Previous Special Exceptions had been granted for these same uses. Staff and the BZA did not object to these requests. However, Staff could not support the increased building height as it would set a precedent along the McCoy Road frontage. In addition, the Comfort Suites Hotel received a height variance for up to 55 feet.. The BZA did not feel there was any reason to allowed an increased height up to 70 feet. There was no opposition at the hearing.
