Summary of the decision

SE-21-12-118 — Jerry Creel for Brush Arbor Baptist Private School

Request: Special Exception in the A-2 zoning district to allow a K-12 private school with 300 students and a 6,480 sq. ft. classroom building addition.

Decision: Approved

Hearing: SYNOPSIS: Staff described the proposal, including the location of the property, the site plan, and photos of the site. Staff provided an analysis of the six (6) criteria and the reasons for a recommendation for approval. Staff noted that no comments were received in support, or in opposition. The applicant stated that the school has met all regulations and has been inspected and has been operating since 1980, and that they just did not know they needed zoning approval. He noted that they had acquired some sheds when additional properties were purchased, and they wanted to keep only 5 sheds, and did not realize that they needed a permit for the covered canopy at the rear. There was no one present to speak in favor or in opposition to the request. The BZA confirmed that the materials to be used for the building, and noted that all applicants are required to get permits for unpermitted structures. The BZA recommended approval of the special exception by a 4-0 vote, subject to the six (6) conditions in the staff report.
