Summary of the decision
VA-25-02-134 — Jennifer Ronneburger
Request: Variance in the P-D zoning district to allow 77.45 sq. ft. of wall signage in lieu of 23.35 sq. ft.
Decision: Denied
Hearing: SYNOPSIS: Staff described the proposal, including the location of the property, the site plan, and photos of the site. Staff provided an analysis of the six (6) criteria and the reasons for a recommendation for denial of the Variance. Staff noted that no comments were received in favor or in opposition to the request. The applicant was present and disagreed with the staff¿s recommendation of denial stating that the location of the front of the building restricts the maximum allowable copy area and had the drive thru façade be classified as the front the signage would comply with Code. The BZA discussed the intent behind sign Code requirements stating the intent is to provide consistent copy area to all businesses and limit visual pollution. They went on to discuss that proper justification showing the six (6) criteria were satisfied was not provided. The BZA recommended denial of Variance request by a 6-0 vote, with one (1) absent.
