Summary of the decision

SE-02-06-044 — Ellis R. Abide

Request: In R-1A (single family - 7,500 sq. ft. lots) zone to construct addition to single family residence with the following Variances: 1. 2 ft. from side property line in lieu of 7.5 ft.; 2. 29 ft. from rear property line in lieu of 30 ft.

Decision: Approved

Hearing: The applicant is constructing additions onto the rear and side of his residence. Staff felt the addition onto the side of the house was too close to the lot line. The BZA felt the rear yard variance was reasonable but the side yard variance was excessive. A nearby property owner spoke in opposition to the side yard variance. She felt the request would set a negative precedent in the area. The BZA compromised with the applicant and required a 5 foot side yard setback.
