SE-03-08-055 — Syrian Lebanese American Club
Request: Special Exception in R-1 (single family-5,000 sq. ft. lots) zone for private social club
Decision: Approved
Hearing: "The Staff Report and Recommendation is located on Pages______ Regarding commentaries and letters, 14 in opposition and 46 in favor were received. Most of the commentaries/letters were from residents in the Club of Orlando Condominiums to the south. The applicant explained the club has existed in the Central Florida area for 63 years. He said this is a family-oriented club whose mission is to celebrate its culture, have social events, and contribute towards charitable causes. They have one membership meeting, one Board meeting, and 2-3 social gatherings per month. There are one-two family picnics per year. Therefore, this facility would not be used on a regular basis. The president of the condominium association stated they were not opposed to the request but had concerns, which were documented in a letter written by the speaker. The BZA addressed the concerns and explained to the speaker the issues are being resolved through specific site plan approval and conditions proposed by staff to protect neighboring residential uses. The applicant agreed with all the recommendations of approval proposed."
