Summary of the decision
VA-01-12-102 — Hess Gas Station
Request: Variance in C-2 zone to raise height of existing pole sign to 70 ft. (previous Variance approval on June 7, 2001, allowed sign at 52 ft. in height in lieu of 30 ft.)
Decision: Approved
Hearing: The applicant had obtained BZA approval last June to install a 100 square foot pole sign at 58 feet in height in lieu of 30 feet in order to provide adequate view to west-bound traffic on I-4. The sign was subsequently manufactured and installed. After installation, they discovered the sign was incorrectly measured as it's face was totally blocked by tall trees within adjacent FDOT right-of-way. A new Variance request was subsequently submitted to correct the height for an additional 18 feet, which would clear the tree line. The applicant submitted photographic renderings of the sign at the new height in relationship to the tree line. The applicant discussed the modified sign height with the property owner on Little Lake Fairview who had input on the first Variance approval. The owner agreed in writing to the modified height, with the three conditions stipulated in the BZA's approval. There was no opposition to this request.
