Summary of the decision
SE-02-07-053 — Clear Channel Outdoor Advertising
Request: In Ind-3 zone to erect billboard with Variances as follows (NOTE: Two existing wooden billboards on-site will be removed): 1. 15 ft. setback from right-of-way of Florida Turnpike in lieu of 50 ft.; 2. 1,695 ft. separation from billboard in lieu of 2,640 ft.
Decision: Approved
Hearing: The subject property contains two old wooden billboards with numerous support posts. They are "grandfathered-in" as to current sign code requirements. The property is being developed for a commercial warehouse building. In order to improve the overall appearance of the property in conjunction with that development, the applicant wants to tear down the two old billboards and replace them with one new, modern billboard. The new billboard will be a monopole type construction and will meet all code requirements other than the two variances requested. It will be located in the general location of the one existing billboard on the south, but five feet further back from the turnpike. Several letters were received from neighboring property owners and businesses in favor of the request. There was no opposition. The BZA felt the Variances should be approved, noting the applicant was taking a pro-active approach in tearing down two unsightly billboards in exchange for one modern billboard.
