Request: Variance in R-1 zone to erect open carport addition to single family residence on the west side property line (zero setback in lieu of 6 ft. from property line).

Decision: Approved

Hearing: The applicant, Connie Freeman, represented the property owner, Mr. Gilberto Luna. Ms. Freeman is employed by Florida Metal Structures, the company that will be installing the carport. Ms. Freeman stated the purpose of the request is provide a sheltered carport area for Mr. Luna's son, who is confined to a wheelchair. The side of the house where the carport is proposed has a door that will accommodate the son's access in and out of the house. A letter of no objection was secured from the neighbor to the west abutting the proposed carport. One commentary in general opposition was received from a neighbor to the north. The district board member asked if the carport could be removed if the son was no longer living at that residence. Ms. Freeman stated the carport could be removed and agreed upon conditioning the Variance approval to that effect.
