Request: Variance in RT-1 zone to allow existing pool and deck to remain and add screened enclosure around pool/deck area 6.3 ft. from side (east) property line in lieu of 15 ft.

Decision: Approved

Hearing: The applicant has a swimming pool with concrete decking around it in the side yard located on Fifth Street of the Taft area. The applicant stated these improvements existed when she bought the property. Mrs. Werner discovered the need for the variance when she attempted to obtain a permit for the screened enclosure. The pool's edge is about 13.8 feet from the side property line. The decking and subsequent screened enclosure will be 6.3 feet from the same line. Staff's review of this indicates the pool area sits on a large piece of property not close to the intersection of the adjacent property owner to the east. Staff's opinion is that a screened enclosure at this location would not detrimentally impact neighboring properties. There was no opposition to this request.
