Summary of the decision
VA-01-09-073 — David M. Streit
Request: Variance in a P-D zone to construct a master bedroom addition to single family residence 15 ft. from the rear property line in lieu of 30 ft.
Decision: Approved
Hearing: The applicant wants to build a 550 square foot bedroom and bath addition for his elderly in-laws, who will be moving in soon. The homeowners association submitted a letter of no objection. Two commentaries were received in opposition, one of which is from a neighbor who resides next door to the proposed addition. The neighbor was concerned that the setback reduction would impact the spacious nature of the rear yard. Also, he said there would not be sufficient space in the driveway to accommodate the parents' vehicle and was concerned it would be parked on the street. The applicant stated he could reduce the size of the addition and was planning to build a circular paved driveway to accommodate the parents' vehicle. Therefore, the BZA imposed the two conditions, which the applicant agreed to.
