Summary of the decision
VA-16-02-148 — WILLIAM HALL
Request: Variance in the P-D zoning district to construct addition (opened covered patio) to single family residence 16 ft. from the rear property line in lieu of 20 ft.
Decision: Approved
Hearing: The applicant is requesting a variance to construct an opened covered patio sixteen (16) feet from the rear property line in lieu of twenty (20) feet. The applicant stated that the insulated roof they are proposing will have better wind resistance and be safer than a regular metal roof. The BZA agreed that the proposed roof was better than a tin or metal roof, and would have less impact, and that the requested variance was for less than twenty-five percent (25%). The BZA asked for an additional condition #4 stating, "The exterior of the addition shall match the colors and materials of the existing structure." Staff received four (4) commentaries in favor of the application and none in opposition. There was no opposition at the hearing.
