Summary of the decision
SE-02-04-022 — Princeton House Charter School
Request: Special Exception in R-2 and R-1A zones to construct and operate a charter school of 175 students. Students to be exceptional education (autistic) and regular education children. Applicant has revised site plan to show primary access from Lee Road and NOT from Fairview Street.
Decision: Approved
Hearing: The Staff Report and Recommendation is located on Pages 92, 93 and 94. The staff report outlining the details of this request is attached. The applicant has a contract to purchase this site. They want to relocate their existing facility from Princeton Street to this site. They operate a school for handicapped children (autism). They conducted a community meeting and the residents in the area objected to any access onto the local residential roadways. Consequently, the applicant negotiated with the church property to the north who has direct access onto Lee Road. The church has agreed to allow the applicant to access the site through their property. This eliminates any access onto the local roadways. The BZA imposed conditions which provide greater protection to the surrounding neighbors. One resident spoke in opposition. He felt the facility would create too much noise. The BZA imposed a wall restriction to abate the noise.
