Summary of the decision

VA-01-09-072 — John & Linda Fohl

Request: Variance in R-1AA zone to construct family room addition to single family residence 17 ft. from the rear property line in lieu of 35 ft.

Decision: Approved

Hearing: The applicant had been granted Variance approval for this rear yard room addition at 20 ft. in 1994. The applicant did not initiate the process due to an extended illness. When he recently hired a consultant to re-initiate the project, it was determined the room would be too narrow to be comfortable due to one side being angled. He therefore filed a new Variance application for 3 additional feet. Staff noted the property has a hardship due to a County parkway easement traversing the property, resulting in a very narrow building window. Approximately one dozen commentaries wer received in favor. There was no opposition.
