Request: Variance in R-1AA (single family-10,000 sq. ft. lots) zone to construct two (2) story addition to single family residence 5 ft. from side property line in lieu of 7.5 ft.

Decision: Approved

Hearing: Many of the homes in the older subdivision have been renovated with more modern, upscale appearances. The applicant's homes has a 1970's style appearance, and they want to renovate for consistency with the trend in the neighborhood. They want to tear down an existing carport already existing at five feet from the side property line. In its place will be built a two story addition to the house consisting of 1100 square feet. Staff noted the neighboring property on that side contains an occupied dwelling. However, the house's vehicular driveway abuts the side lot line, providing a visual and spacial separation between the house and the applicant's proposed addition. There was no opposition to this request. The BZA approved the request based primarily on the separation factor and the minimal amount of variance requested.
