Summary of the decision
VA-00-07-013 — Joseph & Lyn Ellsbury
Request: Variance in R-1AA zone to erect addition (carport) to single family residence 2.5 ft. from side (north) property line in lieu of 7.5 ft.
Decision: Approved
Hearing: The applicants have a very narrow, bowling alley-shaped lot. The house sits in the middle, and a pump house is located in the front yard. The house is very small (950 sq. ft.), and the applicants are adding living area onto the rear to bring it up to standards with other homes in the area. There is currently no garage or carport. The only place left on the lot for a carport is on the north side of the house. It is a single vehicle carport open on all sides. The carport will abut a large evergreen hedge between it and the neighbor's front yard. That neighbor's house sits further to the rear of the carport location. This neighbor has no objection to the variance. The Isle of Pines Homeowner's Association submitted a letter of no objection to the variance.
