Summary of the decision
VA-19-08-078 — Ernest Chaney
Request: Variance in the R-1A zoning district to allow two accessory structures with a cumulative total of 864 sq. ft. of accessory structure floor area in lieu of 500 sq. ft.
Decision: Approved
Hearing: "Staff explained that the applicant had hired a contractor to obtain the necessary permits and build a carport for their RV. After the construction was finished, they asked for the permit and were advised that no permit had been obtained, but the contractor would get one after the fact. The contractor disappeared. The applicant approached staff to see what would be required to obtain a permit. They were advised that they exceeded the allowable square footage for accessory structures, and a variance must be granted to allow both the carport and an existing permitted shed to remain. Staff concluded with the fact that the subject property is actually three (3) times the size of the minimum lot in the R-1A zoning district, and the carport exceeds all setbacks. The applicant submitted seven (7) letters of support from every abutting neighbor and the two (2) neighbors across the street.
