Summary of the decision
SE-03-09-057 — PETRA COLLAZO de ARES/AGENT FOR FEDERATION OF PENTECOSTAL CHURCH
Request: Special Exception in R-1A (single family-7,500 sq. ft. lots) zone to construct religious use facility and Variance to permit grassed parking in lieu of paved. (NOTE: On 3/1/01, the BZA approved a religious use facility on this site for a maximum of 5 years. This request is for permanent approval and proposes a larger building than the one approved on 3/1/01. The new building will be 1,820 sq. ft. in size).
Decision: Denied
Hearing: "The Staff Report and Recommendation is located on Pages_____. Staff presented its findings and reasons for denial. In summary, the request does not comply with the Comprehensive Policy Plan Future Land Use Element and the special exception criteria. The applicant informed the BZA they received BZA approval in March of 2001 to place 3 modular units on the property to be used for religious purposes. That approval was for 5 years only. The cost of placing modular units on the site was cost-prohibitive. Therefore, they wanted to build a permanent building instead. A spokesperson for Take Action For Taft spoke in opposition. He submitted 13 letters from area residents who were opposed to this request. The BZA concluded the request was not compatible with the surrounding area."
