Summary of the decision

VA-99-12-012 — Barbara Frisz

Request: Variance in R-CE zone to erect accessory building (garage) as follows: 1. 17 ft. in height in lieu of 15 ft.; 2. to be located in front of principal residence.

Decision: Approved

Hearing: The property is large in size (four acres), but it is elongated or "bowling alley" shaped. The applicant's house sits in the middle of the property, more than 400 feet from the road. The property is well-buffered along the front and sides by trees and shrubbery. Neighbors on both sides of the property wrote letters in favor of the request. The extra two feet in height (variance #1) relates only to the roof peak and is needed to accommodate the height of the aplicant's recreational vehicle. The applicant currently has a wooden shed and an RV shelter in front of the house. He agreed to remove both of these structures once the new garage is built, and he has had the opportunity to move everything into it. There was no opposition to this request.
