Summary of the decision
VA-03-03-021 — Sandra Jean Henry
Request: Variance in R-1A (single family-7,500 sq. ft. lots) zone to construct carport addition to single family residence 5 ft. from front property line in lieu of 25 ft.
Decision: Approved
Hearing: This is an older residential subdivision with a great deal of mature trees and other plants. Because of the size, density, and location of the trees and plants, it is difficult to clearly see most of the front yards along the street. For this reason, staff had no objection to Variance. However, staff felt the amount requested was excessive and advised the BZA that a 10 ft. setback would be more appropriate. Approving a 10-ft. setback would still allow a 20 foot long carport, which is consistent with the length required of a typical parking space. The applicant agreed to abide by the conditions proposed by staff. There was no opposition.
