Summary of the decision
VA-03-09-102 — Paul W. Markel
Request: Variances in R-1A (single family-7,500 sq. ft. lots) zone as follows: 1) Construct porch addition 5 ft. from side street property line on east in lieu of 15 ft.; 2) Construct 2nd story addition 12 ft. from side street property line on east in lieu of 15 ft.
Decision: Approved
Hearing: The house was built in 1962 when the lot was 85 feet in width. It was reduced down to 75 feet when the County took 10 feet off the side, thereby putting the house at a 5-foot setback from the side street property line. Variance #1 is for a porch addition which will match up to the existing house line on the side. Variance #2 is for a second story addition in the central area of the house with only a 3-foot Variance. It was determined this project would have no detrimental impact on traffic visibility at the intersection or on neighboring property values. BZA felt this request met the Variance criteria and approved it.
