Summary of the decision
VA-01-12-103 — Orlando Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #25
Request: Variance in R-1A zone for caretaker's residence (manufactured home) in association with existing police lodge (NOTE: Previous BZA approval of 1984 expired. Manufactured home is replacing existing mobile home).
Decision: Approved
Hearing: The property is owned by the City of Orlando Fraternal Order of Police. The police lodge has been located there since the mid 1970's. In 1983, the BZA approved a mobile home as a caretaker's residence on a temporary basis. That approval expired. The mobile home has grown old and needs to be replaced. The replacement is a new, manufactured unit that is slightly larger than the existing mobile home. The owner of Camelot Apartments to the north and one abutting resident to the south wrote in favor of the request. There was no opposition. The district BZA member specified that the occupant should be a police officer since the main purpose is for security. Two police officers were present to address the request, one of whom would be occupying the new unit. They agreed to the condition.
