Summary of the decision
VA-16-06-063 — MARK GLENN
Request: Variance in the R-1 zoning district to construct accessory structure with 1,200 sq. ft. of floor area in lieu of 500 ft. (Note: Applicant is proposing a pole barn for storage)
Decision: Approved
Hearing: Staff gave a presentation on the case, and showed photographs of the additional items on the property. The BZA was concerned that a 240% deviation was almost three (3) times the allowable size. The BZA proposed allowing 750 square feet. The applicant requested 1,000 square feet. The BZA felt that a 50% variance was generous since no other such variances were granted in the area. Staff received six (6) commentaries in favor of the application and none in opposition. There was no opposition at the hearing. The BZA approved the Variance with the addition of condition #6, "Accessory structures shall not exceed 750 cumulative square feet, and shall meet all required setbacks".
