Summary of the decision
VA-02-05-064 — Bill Fogle, Agent for Narc0OSSEE Truck Stop
Request: Variance in I-5 (general industrial) zone to erect pole sign 100 ft. in height in lieu of 30 ft. in height.
Decision: Approved
Hearing: Two Amoco pole signs exist on-site. Staff advised the copy area requested for the pole sign, 250 square feet, was in excess of what was allowed the site, because the truck stop parcel, which was split away from the Amoco station, contained the two pole signs for the Amoco station, and because the parcel is allowed only 129 square feet per sign code. Staff acknowledged there was a need to have signage visible from the Bee Line Expressway due to the type of business this is. However, it was not necessary for the sign to be 100 feet in height. The applicant said they would need to have at least 50 feet to have clear visibility from both directions. He stated the one Amoco sign on the north side will be removed. The BZA approved the sign with conditions to bring both the Amoco station and the truck stop parcels closer into compliance with the sign code.
