Summary of the decision

VA-21-10-092 — Schiller Mercier

Request: Variance in the R-1 zoning district to allow a 495.7 sq. ft. addition to a residence with a 16 ft. east rear setback in lieu of 25 ft. This is the result of Code Enforcement action.

Decision: Approved

Hearing: SYNOPSIS: Staff described the proposal, including the location of the property, the site plan, and photos of the site. Staff provided an analysis of the six (6) criteria and the reasons for a recommendation for denial. Staff noted that two (2) comments were received in support and no comments were received in opposition. The property owner agreed with the staff presentation and added that they will be using the addition for storage of goods which they sell online. They also added that they were not aware they needed a permit to build the addition as it was built on an area which was previously covered with pavers. There was no one in attendance to speak in favor or in opposition to the request. The BZA unanimously recommended approval of the variance by a 5-0 vote, subject to the five (5) conditions in the staff report.
