Summary of the decision

VA-03-12-142 — Ace Cash

Request: Variance in C-1 (retail commercial) zone to allow 146.46 sq. ft. of pole signage copy area in lieu of 87.5 sq. ft. (NOTE: Applicant wants to add 33.86 sq. ft. of copy area on an existing pole sign. The existing pole sign is a legal non-conforming pole sign containing 112.6 sq. ft. of copy area. The applicant is requesting an additional 33.86 sq. ft. of copy area).

Decision: Denied

Hearing: The applicant is requesting additional copy area on his pole sign. The existing sign is maxed out with copy area. Rather than negotiate with the landlord of the center, the applicant is requesting a signage variance. Staff concluded the request did not comply with the zoning variance criteria and if this request was approved it would cause other tenants in shopping centers to request excessive signage. The BZA agreed.
