Summary of the decision

SE-00-07-017 — Nextel Communications

Request: "Special Exception in C-2 zone for a single use and camouflaged communications tower (flag pole). If the BZA determines the camouflaged tower is not compatible with the character and nature of the area, then the following Variances to the tower-to-residential separation requirements are needed: 1. 410 ft. from R-3 zoned lands to the west in lieu of 600 ft.; 2. 455 ft. from R-3 zoned lands to the southwest in lieu of 600 ft."

Decision: Approved

Hearing: "The Staff Report and recommendation is located on pages ---. This request is similar to Continued Public Hearing #7, a single use camouflage tower request located on Hoffner Road. In that case, the BZA approved the camouflage tower but denied the single use, requiring the applicant to obtain colocation prior to building the tower. The subject tower is located at the Orange Blossom Shopping Center. Staff recommended denial of the single use request for the same reasons as in the Hoffner Road case. The BZA, however, saw a difference between the two cases, noting the subject tower was impacting less residential uses than the tower on Hoffner Road. Therefore, the BZA granted the applicant the ability to build the tower as a single use tower, but required that it be colocated within twleve (12) months. Randall Grief, Executive Director with the South Orange Blossom Trail Development Board, submitted a letter stating no opposition given the fact the tower would be located a considerable distance from the Trail. There was no citizenry opposition to this request."
