Summary of the decision
VA-16-02-155 — DAVE HULME
Request: Variances in the P-D zoning district for real estate signage, as follows: 1) 703.2 sq. ft. of signage in lieu of 128 sq. ft.; 2) 2 signs in lieu of 1 sign.
Decision: Denied
Hearing: The applicant is requesting variances for real estate signage placed on shipping containers (PODS). The applicant stated they are using functional storage containers, and thought it would be acceptable to consider them to be branded containers. The BZA stated that when you build a berm and angle the containers to face the highway, then the intent is for signage, that it is a creative way to have a billboard use when billboards are prohibited. Staff received one (1) commentary in favor of the application and two (2) commentaries in opposition. There was no opposition at the hearing. The BZA denied the variance.
