Summary of the decision
VA-24-05-024 — Renee Oij for Bank of America
Request: Variance in the C-1 zoning district to allow two (2) pole signs on a parcel with less than 400 linear feet of frontage, in lieu of one (1) pole sign.
Decision: Approved
Hearing: SYNOPSIS: Staff described the proposal, including the location of the property, the site plan, and photos of the site. Staff provided an analysis of the six (6) criteria and the reasons for a recommendation for denial. Staff noted that no comments were received in support, and no comments were received in opposition. The applicant described the property, noted that it is adjacent to two separate street two frontages, that the property has slightly less property frontage adjacent to East Colonial Drive needed to eliminate the Variance. The applicant also noted the need for the existing signs to be replaced for modernization. There was no one in attendance to speak in favor or in opposition to the request. The BZA discussed the different pole and ground sign performance standards, stated justification for the six (6) criteria and unanimously recommended approval of the Variance by a 6-0 vote, with one seat vacant, subject to the 3 conditions in the staff report.
